Churros with chocolate dipping sauce

Crispy Spanish fried dough sticks dusted in cinnamon sugar and served with a rich dark chocolate dipping sauce.

Ingredients

  • 250 ml water
  • 250 g plain flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • Oil for frying
  • 100 g caster sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 200 g dark chocolate
  • 200 ml double cream
  • 2 tbsp sugar for the chocolate sauce

Method

    Bring the water to the boil with salt. Remove from heat, add flour and baking powder, stir until a smooth dough forms.

    Heat oil to 180°C. Pipe the dough through a star nozzle directly into the oil.

    Fry in 10 cm lengths, cutting with scissors. Cook for 3-4 minutes until golden.

    Mix cinnamon and sugar. Roll the hot churros in the cinnamon sugar immediately.
  5. 5
    Make the sauce: heat the cream, add broken chocolate and sugar. Stir until smooth.

    Serve the churros hot with the warm chocolate sauce.
