American Pancakes

Thick and fluffy American-style pancakes made with buttermilk. Perfect for a weekend breakfast served with maple syrup and butter.

Ingredients

  • 3 dl all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 dl buttermilk (or milk + 1 tbsp vinegar)
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • Butter for frying

Method

  1. 1Combine flour, baking powder, salt and sugar in a bowl.
  2. 2Whisk buttermilk, egg and melted butter together in a separate bowl.
  3. 3Stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients just until combined – a few lumps are fine.
  4. 4Let the batter rest for 5 minutes.
  5. 5Heat a frying pan over medium heat and melt a little butter.
  6. 6Pour about 0.5 dl batter per pancake. Cook until bubbles form on the surface and edges look set.
  7. 7Flip and cook a further 1–2 minutes until golden brown. Serve immediately with maple syrup.
