Classic Swedish oat porridge cooked with milk and a pinch of salt. Served with a knob of butter and cold milk — the simplest and most nourishing breakfast.

  • 2 dl rolled oats
  • 4 dl milk
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • Cold milk to serve

Method

    Pour milk and salt into a saucepan and bring to the boil over medium heat, stirring.

    Add the oats in a steady stream, stirring constantly. Reduce the heat.

    Simmer on low heat for 3–5 minutes, stirring continuously, until the porridge has thickened and the oats are soft.

    Ladle into deep bowls. Place a knob of butter in the centre and serve with cold milk on the side.
