The ultimate British comfort food. Flaky white fish in a crispy beer batter, served with golden chips and tartar sauce.
Ingredients
- 4 fillets white fish (cod or haddock)
- 2 dl all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 2 dl cold beer (or sparkling water)
- Potatoes, cut into chips
- Oil for frying
- Salt and malt vinegar
Method
- 1Whisk flour, baking powder, and beer into a smooth batter. Let rest for 20 minutes.
- 2Double-fry the potato chips until golden and crispy.
- 3Dredge fish in a little extra flour, then dip into the batter.
- 4Carefully lower the fish into hot oil (180°C) and fry until golden and crispy, about 4-5 minutes.
- 5Serve hot with the chips, lemon, and tartar sauce.
