The ultimate British comfort food. Flaky white fish in a crispy beer batter, served with golden chips and tartar sauce.

Ingredients

  • 4 fillets white fish (cod or haddock)
  • 2 dl all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 dl cold beer (or sparkling water)
  • Potatoes, cut into chips
  • Oil for frying
  • Salt and malt vinegar

Method

  1. 1Whisk flour, baking powder, and beer into a smooth batter. Let rest for 20 minutes.
  2. 2Double-fry the potato chips until golden and crispy.
  3. 3Dredge fish in a little extra flour, then dip into the batter.
  4. 4Carefully lower the fish into hot oil (180°C) and fry until golden and crispy, about 4-5 minutes.
  5. 5Serve hot with the chips, lemon, and tartar sauce.
