Classic Swedish apple pie with a crunchy oat crumble topping and a juicy apple filling with cinnamon and cardamom. Serve warm with custard or ice cream.

Ingredients

  • 6 apples (about 700 g), peeled and sliced
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp caster sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 0.5 tsp cardamom
  • 2 dl rolled oats
  • 1 dl plain flour
  • 1 dl brown sugar
  • 100 g cold butter, diced
  • Vanilla custard or vanilla ice cream to serve

Method

    Preheat the oven to 200 °C. Grease a pie dish (22 cm).

    Toss the apple slices with lemon juice, caster sugar, cinnamon and cardamom. Fill the dish.

    Mix oats, flour and brown sugar in a bowl. Add the cold butter and rub in to form a crumbly topping.

    Scatter the crumble evenly over the apples.

    Bake for 30–35 minutes until the topping is golden and the apples are bubbling. Serve warm with custard.
